Berga is considered the gateway to the Pyrenees of Catalonia and an essential place to visit where you will find some of the best routes to do in the province of Barcelona, and of course, of the most original routes and excursions to do in Catalonia. Most of the routes in Berga are surrounded by mountains and outdoor sports. In addition, being in a region where you can enjoy incredible natural areas while you venture to know what to do and see in the Berguedà (a region that is relatively close to Barcelona city), has the advantage that you can find public transport connections. An ideal village to enjoy a relaxing weekend getaway in Catalonia.
If you are in Berga, you must visit the historical center of the city. Just in this part of the municipality took place the most important events for its inhabitants and that have left a legacy for the town. Berga is a town that still preserves its traditions. We encourage you to learn more about the customs of its inhabitants, taste the gastronomy and recognize the cultural influence of this town for the rest of Catalonia.
In the same way, we invite you to take a look at other proposals that we have in the area, such as routes through Castellar de N’hug, what to do in Solsona, or even the routes of Campdevanol that you will love.
Today we are going to spend the day in the surroundings of the beautiful city of Berga, surrounded by other interesting proposals such as the following: on this occasion, we propose you to venture to make the route that goes from the Santuari de Queralt, to the Mirador de la Figuerassa. A one-day excursion, which includes the best outdoor fun. For this excursion we recommend you to bring snacks, drinks and a good camera.
The Sanctuary of Queralt: the first Sanctuary that was built dates back to 1386 and the one we can visit today was built in 1741. In addition, this sanctuary is a work protected as a cultural asset of local interest for Catalonia.
The Castell Blancafort: this castle was built on the highest point of the mountain, at about 1,175 meters, right where the Upper and Lower Berguedà are divided; giving the best views of both places.
El Mirador de la Figuerassa: located at an altitude of 1,500 meters, it offers 360º views of the surrounding natural environment.
Queralt Sanctuary
This sanctuary is located at an altitude of 1,200 meters, which is why it is called “the balcony of Catalonia”. If there is something that justifies climbing to the top of the Santuari de Queralt, it is the breadth of its landscapes and the beautiful natural views it offers.
The architectural complex of the Santuari de Queralt, is nowadays an attractive viewpoint restaurant and offers the service of a funicular that goes up from the parking area. But the main attraction of this place is the sanctuary itself. This is known for venerating the image of the Mare de Déu de Queralt, which was found a few centuries ago, and since then is the most important attraction of this place, gathering every year many tourists and parishioners.
Castell Blancafort
The remains of Castell Blancafort are right at the top of the mountain range that bears the same name, at an altitude of 1,776 meters. This castle is documented since 1174 and was built to facilitate communication between the other castles in the area. Although only the defense tower is preserved, this place holds one of the greatest architectural riches for the municipality of Blancafort, so it is worth a visit.
If you dare to stay a little longer in the village, we recommend you to visit the old town and see some important buildings and monuments. The magic of this town is that it is very rural, and that makes it undoubtedly so charming. In addition to enjoying very picturesque landscapes that are rugged with the proximity to the mountain range of Tallat, and the mountain of Blancafort.
Figuerassa viewpoint
The Figuerassa viewpoint, is located at about 1,500 meters above sea level, so it is the best place to admire the incredible 360º views overlooking the Baells and Montserrat reservoirs.
This place is known for having the best hiking excursions in Berga . Every year there are more and more tourists looking for recreation with mountain sports and adventure that this place offers. Photographers love this viewpoint, and no wonder. From this natural place you can take excellent pictures of the landscape and not to mention the sunsets, they are incredible: certainly an example of the best relaxing getaways in Catalonia that we recommend to do if you are in the area.
As this is our last stop on the route, we will take most of the time of this tour to admire the scenery and eat our snack, while we wait for the arrival of the sunset with its incredible sunset between mountains and rivers.
