Route details:
In this trip we are going to La Garrotxa, specifically to Olot, Girona. Although this area is popularly known for its geography of volcanic origin, it hides other mysteries and preciousness such as the Fageda d’en Jordà: A natural reserve characterized by its beech trees (it is the name of the tree), and its terrain formed of cooled lava. In another article we talked about the volcanoes of Catalonia, in which we addressed in more detail all the volcanoes of the volcanic area of La Garrotxa.
In this trip, we will enter this natural reserve to let ourselves be invaded by nature in its purest state, walking among trees, and visiting hidden monuments in the depths of the Fageda d’en Jordà.

The trip has an approximate distance of 11 km (6 hours walking), and along this way we will discover the Fageda d’en Jordà bordering it from the top of the Serra del Corb, enjoying its natural landscape, beech forests, visiting centenary hermitages… Just when we arrive, we will do the first stop for breakfastand at noon the second stop for lunch. The checkpoints that we will visit during the trip are the following:
- 2 Centennial hermitages.
- 1 Cave.
- +3 Viewpoints (from which you can see all the volcanoes of La Garrotxa).
- 1 Inactive volcano.
Departure from Barcelona: 8:00 h (from the post office, Barcelona).
Arrival in Barcelona: 20:00 h (at the post office, Barcelona).
Difficulty: Moderate (it is advisable to bring hiking shoes, and some physical endurance is required, especially at the beginning of the route).
- Positive elevation gain: +462 meters.
- Negative vertical drop: -462 meters.
