Thisroute that goes from Granera to Pantà del Marcet, will involve you in a journey full of history and tradition that characterizes the town of Granera, which you can not miss.
This route, which runs through the village of Granera, the Castell de Granera and the Granera reservoir, can take approximately 2 hours. A tour that you can do by car or motorcycle. It is also ideal to enjoy as a couple, with friends and even with the whole family.
The journey begins a few centuries ago, touring the emblematic village of Granera. Here we will climb to the top of its medieval fortress: the Castle of Granera, to enjoy one of the most amazing views of Moianès. Then we will take a break and for that we recommend you to prepare a snack and bring some drinks for the road. Finally, we will go to the Marcet reservoir, a place that attracts nature lovers, fishing and the occasional swimmer in summer.
And if you dare to enjoy a typical Catalan meal in one of the farmhouses of the village, it can be an exquisite experience that gastronomy lovers can’t miss. Come and enjoy a different experience, visiting one of the oldest places in Catalonia. You should also know that in the surroundings you have other natural plans, as in other articles we talked about the things to see in Sant Feliu de Codines, or everything to do in Caldes de Montbui. Also, if we go more towards the part of the Natural Park of Sant Llorenç del Munt i l’Obac, we can find incredible places that we must stop to visit as is the Cova Simanya.
Town of Granera
We will start the route in what is now the town hall of this small town. Parking is easy to find, and obviously free of charge. So we will leave the car or motorcycle next to the park where the town hall is located, and from there we will be able to observe incredible views of the incredible natural landscape that surrounds the town of Granera. If you look, from this same park, we can already see the castle of Granera (our second stop) at the top of the peat bog.
Then, we suggest you to take the vehicle you came with (since this part of the village is a bit far from the center), and get closer to what is the urban nucleus. You will see that at the entrance of the village there is a drinking water fountain, from which we can recharge supplies before starting the visit to this beautiful village.
The visit to the village of Granera is to relax and disconnect, get lost in its streets and be amazed by the character offered by each wall and stone of this village. We will find a bench along the route, from which we can stop to enjoy the beautiful views offered by the village (as it is slightly raised).
We are surprised by the tranquility and harmony that permeates it, as well as the mountains, valleys and meadows that surround it: a place of peace clearly governed by nature.
Granera Castle
The Castell de Granera is located at the top of the village, and to reach it, we must access by a dirt road easily accessible. It was built on the top of the hill, as a fortress of the city in medieval times: to be more exact around the year 971. A castle of family tradition that became the current emblem of the village.
Although the castle of Granera is no longer preserved in its entirety, and its entrance is restricted to the public, it is still a tourist attraction for visitors to the village and we would dare say that it is a must-see if you are in Granera.
An ideal plan to share a romantic sunset as a couple, a different experience with friends and even a walk with the whole family, would be a very good plan.
From this picturesque castle, you can contemplate the panoramic views of the village, which can be seen from above and even being surrounded by mountains, the connection with nature that it offers is very comforting.
Getting to the castle will be very easy, since the town is not too big and you will quickly see the signs that tell you how to get to the fortification. Although, as mentioned above, the entrance is restricted to the public, some daring people surround the castle itself and enjoy the sunset or spend the afternoon contemplating the views from the outskirts of the fortification.
Marcet swamp or Granera swamp
This small reservoir located in the Marcet stream is known to be one of the most visited places in Granera . A meeting place for families and friends who want to enjoy an afternoon outdoors and a moment of connection with nature.
To get to Pantà del Marcet, we advise you to do it by car or motorcycle, as you can park in a space of land, or else in summer time many leave the car on the roadside (without disturbing the vehicle). To get to the shore of the reservoir, the journey is short: from the moment you leave the car, you only have to walk 1 minute to reach the water. After that, it is up to you to find the place you like best to stay.
During our visit to the reservoir, we discovered that many people like to go fishing and spend long hours enjoying this activity.
If you want to enjoy an afternoon picnic on the shores of the reservoir, it is also another viable option (as long as we are environmentally responsible and respect the environment). Finally, although bathing is not recommended, in summer many bathers come here to beat the heat.
