Excursion from Montcau to La Mola

In Willy’s plan we chose one of the most important destinations, which is obviously part of our offer of routes and excursions in Barcelona province, and of course you can not miss if you are looking for excursions to do in Catalonia. Join us in this adventure through the incredible regions of Bages routes and excursions in Vallès Occidental, visiting some sites around Terrassa and its incredible mountain area.

In this excursion, we will be located in the Natural Park of St. George. Llorenç del Munt (Barcelona). Where we will enjoy a tour of the Montcau, Cova Simanya and La Mola. An experience between mountains and caves!

An ideal plan if you are looking for a getaway with family, friends or as a couple; ideal for those who are looking for routes with moderate difficulty and easy... It can take us about 5 to 6 hours, so we will clearly do it calmly, and with all the enjoyment it deserves. So pack some good sneakers and a snack or two for the road!

To begin with, we will start from the coll d’estenalles, heading towards the first mountain: the Montcau. In it, we can appreciate incredible 360º panoramic views, and not because it is especially high. The Montcau is an easy mountain to climb and very pleasant to connect with the majesty of nature. Then we will visit the Simanya Cave, a natural hole 372 meters deep, where people lived in the Neolithic era. Finally, we end up going up to La Mola ( 1,104m high) where we can enjoy spectacular views and a restaurant to eat (we will talk about this later)… Are you up for it? If on the other hand, you would like to do it but you do not have your own vehicle, do not worry: We also offer you to sign up for the excursion of la mola with a private guide, one of our many organized activities that we carry out.

Montcau

excursion montcau

The Montcau or “burrow mountain”, belongs to the Natural Park of Sant Llorenç del Munt i l’Obac . It is a massif located in the peritoral mountain range of Barcelona, more exactly in the region of Bages. Although its location is between the municipalities of Terrassa and Manresa, either of the two points is ideal to start the tour.

This peak, which reaches 1056.8 m, offers incredible views of the Montserrat and Montseny massifs, making it one of the most popular tourist attractions for local travelers.

An excursion on the Montcau can be an unforgettable experience for mountain sports and nature lovers.

Simanya Cave

cova simanya
cova simanya

Welcome to one of the most popular caves in St. Louis. Llorenç del Munt! Although there are many natural caves in this area, we wanted to highlight theSimanya cave for its particularity as it shows the first human settlements and the ability of the first inhabitants to shelter in these caves.

This hike is on foot, and although the ascent is quite long, it is usually a gentle stretch. This natural wonder is located halfway between Montcau and La Mola. At one particular point, we will have to make a detour to visit this beauty of more than 300 meters deep.

When you reach the Cova Simanya you have to be careful, as the route is made in the middle of very narrow stretches, full of water and mud. So for the clueless, stay tuned. At the slightest misdirection, a blow to the head is almost certain. But as we say: it is always worth the risk, and the photos taken in this place are also worth it. We won’t tell you the rest, you will enjoy it yourself.

La Mola

ruta por la mola

La Mola or also called “the table”, is the highest mountain in the Natural Park of Sant Llorenç del Munt i l’Obac (next to the things to see in Mura, what to see in Talamanca, and even close to the routes to do in Caldes de Montbui). Its altitude can exceed 1104 meters, so it can be seen from several points of the region.

Along the way, it is important to follow the recommended guide and the signs that are found at the crossroads, above all to avoid detours and take precautions. The climb is a little steep at the beginning, because we will find very rocky paths and walls, until we reach a flatter terrain where you can already appreciate the first views.

At the top of this mountain we will find the Romanesque Monastery of Sant Llorenç De Munt, which is currently a restaurant that attracts a large influx of tourists and travelers in the area. The most curious thing about this restaurant is that to supply it they require donkeys to carry the food, which is an attraction for visitors who enjoy seeing how this type of work was done in the past. It’s like traveling back in time! In addition to offering good service, the natural scenery is incomparable.
