The Sagrada Familia is undoubtedly the most emblematic building in the city of Barcelona and has become the most visited place in the city. If you could only visit one place in Barcelona, you’d have to choose this amazing church, which encapsulates the essence of Catalan Moderniste architecture.

Antoni Gaudí was the architect behind this building that reaches up into the clouds, although he was never able to see it finished. And he wasn’t the only one; two centuries later, the church is still under construction. Booking a visit to the Sagrada Familia is one of the best ways to discover all the secrets this church hides, which you might overlook if you decide to go alone.

It’s likely that during your visit a multitude of questions will come to mind – which is normal, because you are in front of one of the most complex and difficult buildings in the world to analyse:

  • How is the structure supported?
  • Why do the columns look like trees?
  • How many different facades are there?
  • What does the writing on the door mean?
  • How is the inside lit?

Making reference to the plans you are given, your guide will explain to you how Gaudí conceived his work and how his dream is still being realised, funded by tourists’ entry fees. At the end of the tour of the inside, your guide will let you continue your visit by climbing the towers, provided you’ve already bought tickets for this.
