We have compiled a selection of hiking trails in Barcelona simple and affordable for all ages, so there is little difficulty and the places are spectacular. Take advantage and treat yourself to a relaxing getaway in Catalonia!

1. Montseny

parque natural del montseny

One of the most wonderful places in Barcelona is undoubtedly the Natural Reserve of Montseny. This is one of the most outstanding mountain routes in Barcelona and its surroundings, and one of the best natural parks in Catalonia.

It has great biodiversity and covers more than 100,000 hectares in one hundred municipalities. Although it is beautiful at any time of the year, it is recommended to visit in autumn, since the colors that dye the leaves of the trees are a magical spectacle, worthy of a fairy tale.

The mountain routes that can be carried out in this area are many and are perfectly adapted to each type of person and their needs, as you can dare with a harder route or simply walk to the swamp with the little ones without getting tired absolutely nothing, so if you are looking for a getaway with children in Catalonia is also a good plan.

2. The Montcau and the Mola

One of the most popular mountain routes in Barcelona is to go to La Mola, the highest mountain in the Natural Park of Sant Llorenç del Munt i l’Obac, in Vallès Occidental. This area on Sundays is a pilgrimage point for hundreds of pixapins, as it is very worthwhile because the views are really impressive.

During this mountain excursion in Barcelona you can visit the Monastery of Sant Llorenç, which is now a restaurant-museum, the Camí dels monjos and the occasional bar in the chapel of the monastery where we can stop to rest. There are several itineraries that you can follow in La Mola: visit the Pera Castles, the Noria de Can Valls, the Mura… With a height of 1,104 m and a drop of about 360 meters, it is advisable to also include in your route a visit to the Montcau (1,066 m). Don’t miss our excursion from Montcau to La Mola!

It is a slightly more complex excursion than others, as there are several climbs on the route and slightly more difficult areas, so we recommend it for people who want to do sports rather than walks.

A curious fact is that there are areas where cars can’t go up, so the people in charge of carrying the materials and food to the restaurants are donkeys, as they used to do in the old days. That’s vintage charm and the rest is nonsense! 😉

3. Garraf Natural Park

Located between the town of Sitges and Garraf we find this wonderful Natural Park, a place that stands out for the modeling of its abrupt karst rocks and areas of clayey character.

This is a perfect mountain route in Barcelona to do at any time of the year, due to the mild temperatures of the area.

In addition, due to its proximity to the coast, the spectacular views of the Mediterranean Sea make this route a romantic plan to do as a couple in Barcelona.

If you choose this option, do not hesitate to consult our Route from the Castell d’Eramprunyà to the Ermita de la Trinitat.

4. Montnegre and El Corredor

Practically next to the coast, next to municipalities such as Mataró, Arenys de Mar or Canet de Mar, an interesting mountainous group emerges. The Natural Park of Montnegre and the Corridor is part of the Catalan coastal mountain range, is located in the province of Barcelona and is the natural barrier between the Vallés Oriental and the regions of the Maresme (Do not miss our Routes and excursions in the Maresme region).

The Natural Park of Montnegre i el Corredor is an area characterized by its abrupt relief and its Mediterranean forest, but also for its incredible historical and cultural values, as evidenced by the existence of the dolmens of Pedro Gentil, belonging to the Neolithic period, some unique farmhouses scattered throughout this stunning territory.

5. Montserrat

The mountain of Montserrat is one of the most beautiful, mystical and well known in Catalonia and is a super easy mountain route close to the city, ideal for a picnic in the open air. Going to Montserrat is a classic for many, either to ask something to the virgin, live the experience of the rack railway or enjoy the beautiful views that this wonderful place has to offer.

Whatever the reason, that’s why at Willy’s plan we have a route from Monestir de Montserrat to Ermita de Sant Miqueltwo places you can not miss if you visit the massif of Montserrat, along with the Creu de Sant Miquel (one of the best viewpoints in Catalonia). This excursion can be found both as one of the most popular and as routes to do in Anoia as one of the best excursions to do in the Baix Llobregat.

6. Collserola

A classic among classics. Located in the heart of Barcelona, in the Natural Park of Collserola you can travel, in less than three hours, a few kilometers from Barcelona. 17 km and to see some breathtaking views of the city.

The most charming thing about this nature reserve is the contrast between architecture and nature that can be glimpsed along the way. Although somewhat deteriorated, you can still see buildings built by the ancient Iberian settlements, which preserve the historical and cultural value of most of Catalonia. These range from small hermitages or churches, castles, fortresses, to the famous Catalan farmhouses.

7. Taradell Castle

Taradell Castle, also known as Can Boix Castle, is a quiet place and also offers a calm route where you can enjoy a pleasant walk. More than for sports enthusiasts, this mountain route focuses more on enjoying the castle and the history of the place.

The forests and vegetation that occupies the place is abundant and very green, the castle, although small, gives it a particular charm and offers an incredible viewpoint of the population. It is a perfect plan to disconnect for a day surrounded by nature and good scenery, have a picnic outdoors and take some great pictures.
