Route from Parc de Mare de la Font to Dolmen de la Llanera

Solsona is one of the most representative towns of Catalonia. This is because the tradition is preserved here, almost intact. In addition, the connection with nature offered by this beautiful town is wonderful, here you can breathe 100% naturalness. This makes it one of the most significant destinations and routes in Lleida.

This Willy’s plan through Solsona, runs along the route from Parc Mare de la Font to Dolmen la Llanera and is designed to be done on a quiet Sunday afternoon. We recommend you to enjoy it very quietly, while you get to know the beautiful landscape of this region and get into the wonderful history of Catalonia.

It is also important that you bring a good camera to take pictures of the scenery (which by the way is amazing), fresh food and drinks in case you get a little hungry and above all very comfortable clothes to enjoy the route. Otherwise, Willy’s plan takes over.

ruta castellvell

Parc Mare de la Font: in this beautiful and cozy park, you can start the day taking a leisurely stroll (crossing its beautiful bridges), if you feel like it you can swim in the waterfall for a while and then have breakfast or lunch in the picnic area that you will find and that is phenomenal. So we started the day recharged with lots of energy and with more desire to continue our excursion.

El Castellvell: at an altitude of 848 meters, the Castle of Solsona is located. In this fortress (dating from the eleventh century), we can see the remains of the wall, some towers, a small Gothic church and incredible views where you can relax and forget about everything.

Dolmen La Llanera: this megalithic monument is probably the largest and we dare say that it is one of the best preserved monuments in Catalonia. It is also a structure that dates back more than 5,000 years and is 9 meters high, so it is definitely worth a visit.

Mare de la Font Park

Located on the road that goes in the direction of Castellar de la Ribera, a few kilometers from Solsona, is the Parc Mare de la Font. A garden of great ecological and scenic value for the region and it is no wonder. In this charming place you can breathe a lot of naturalness, in addition to the leisure and services offered by this place, it is incredible to spend a full morning or afternoon.

The excursions through Parc Mare de la Font are full of fun and entertainment. Here you can take incredible walks in the open air, enjoy a good barbecue or picnic, visit some of the fountains (we recommend the fountain of La Mina) and historical monuments (such as the hermitage of San Pedro Mártir or the castle of Castellvell) that this place has. Without a doubt a very versatile park that we included in our first stop of the day of our Willy’s plan.

Castellvell

ruta el castellvell

The castle of Solsona or also known as the Castellvell, was built about 848 meters high in the mountain range that bears the same name, just in the municipality of Olius, northwest of the city of Solsona.

This 11th century watchtower, like the great majority of military constructions in Catalonia, was built as a fortification to protect the town in times of conquest. This Romanesque structure is preserved in good condition, so that inside, you can still see what was the old chapel, which was later restored in the Gothic style. In addition you can see some coats of arms of families that influenced the history of the castle and of course the coat of arms of the city of Solsona. Undoubtedly a very important place for the tradition and representation of this city and that we could not fail to include in our route.

Dolmen La Llanera

ruta dolmen llanera

The Dolmen La Llanera is perhaps the most desired visit of our route through Solsona. You cannot imagine how incredible it is to be able to appreciate a structure more than 5000 years old, to be more exact from the Neolithic era. Given its age, the Dolmen La Llanera is preserved in very good condition and for this reason is considered one of the most representative dolmens of Catalan archeology.

To reach this place, we must move to the town of Torà, a few kilometers from the city of Solsona. Here we will take a walking route to the Vila de Gola de Bous, which is where the monument is located. Along the way we will enjoy the beautiful scenery and we will come across some crop fields (that if we are lucky we can see harvested) and the most important thing is that we will know one of the best kept archaeological structures of Solsona.
