Red Tower

In this first place of this tour, we will go up to the hill of the red towerto learn about the milestone between the municipalities of Sentmenat y Caldes de Montbui. This building is located right in the old Iberian settlement, where the old hermitage of San Miguel del Arn and the waterfall and pool of Pèlags remain in ruins; constructions that trace the history of this area.

The story goes that this tower located on one of the highest hills of the town served as a watchtower for the protection of the town and its inhabitants during the times of the conquest and it was the Romans who gave continuity to its construction and influenced the Romanesque air that can be seen in most of its structure.

When you are in this place, do not forget to ask about the controversial dispute that represented its construction and how they managed to finish this medieval structure.

Castell de Montbui

On our tour of the castles of the Vallés Oriental, we arrived at Castell De Montbui. As a curious fact, this castle receives its name for being the property and home of the “Montbui family”, who inhabited it for most of the thirteenth century. After several successions this castle came into the hands of the crown around 1714 and it was for this reason that it underwent several modifications in its design and architecture.

Although the Castle of Montbui is currently in ruins, you can still appreciate the remarkable canvases of its walls made of inclined stone, rectangular ashlars and still retains its polygonal structure. Undoubtedly a place you should visit if you are looking for a tour full of history and culture.

Turó de Tagamament

castell de tagamanent

As its name indicates“Turó de Tagamanent”, it belongs to the village of the same name. This fortification is located in one of the most important parks in the country. Catalonia, the Natural Park of Montseny. The castle of Tagamanent, keeps the remains of the first signs of population of the province of Barcelona, of which we can still identify churches, medieval chapels, large farmhouses, among others, which were built on the road leading to this beautiful mountain.

The most incredible thing about Turó de Tagamanent, and of course one of the reasons that always motivates us to visit it, are its incredible panoramic views of the village. Something that if we could describe in one word, it would be “fascinating”. Not taking a picture in this place is unforgivable.
