Rutas en bici por Barcelona

One of the easiest and most popular bike routes in Barcelona city is the one that goes through the mountain of Montjuïc along the Ronda Verda itinerary. The Olympic Mountain is a good place to admire the city from a high point while getting your legs in shape.

It has not only breathtaking views of Barcelona and the periphery, but also museums, sports facilities and buildings such as the castle, the Palau de Sant Jordi, the Olympic Stadium, the Poble Espanyol and the gardens of Miramar, Costa Llobera, Joan Brossa or the Botanical Garden.

It is a route of medium-high difficulty, as most of it is developed through steep areas, offering splendid views of the coast of Barcelona. Of course, there are also ramps, curves and descents where it will be important to handle the bike well.

From Plaça d’Espanya, the smoothest ascent to Montjuïc is along Avinguda del Estadi, but you can also go up Carrer de Lleida and Passeig de Santa Madrona, with some spectacular curves. Take a look at our Route from the Castell de Montjuic to the Mayor’s Viewpoint!

Bicycle route along the Carretera de les Aigües (Aigües Road)

Rutas en bici por Barcelona

Although it has been officially renamed Passeig de les Aigües, people still know it as Carretera de les Aigües. The name comes from an old water distribution pipeline.

This road bike route in Barcelona deviates a bit from the city, but it is a classic, it also belongs to its surroundings and it is a highly recommended bike route as well.

Located in the foothills of Collserola, one of the best natural parks in Catalonia, the Aigües road starts at Pla del Maduixers, in Barcelona (where it is accessed from Tibidabo Avenue) and ends at Plaça de Mireia, in Esplugues de Llobregat.

Although it has a couple of steep climbs, it is a flat, low-difficulty trail, suitable for all bikes and levels and especially popular with cyclists and long-distance runners who use it for riding and training.

In its nearly 9 kilometers it offers some of the best panoramic views of Barcelona and the Mediterranean Sea and allows you to approach emblematic buildings such as the Sagrat Cor temple, the Collserola tower and the Fabra observatory, from where you can enjoy a magnificent dinner with stars.

For those who want to imitate the Tour de France, Tibidabo offers several bike routes around Barcelona.

If you like road cycling, in Collserola there are also several roads (such as Forat del Vent, Arrabassada, Vallvidrera, Molins de Rei) perfect for designing a ‘leg-breaking’ mountain stage, with continuous climbs and descents. One of the many possible itineraries consists of going up to Tibidabo via the Arrabassada , which is approximately 6.9 km to the amusement park. From here you can go to Vallvidrera and do the whole descent to Molins de Rei (16 km more) through a sector of the mountain range that is not very crowded. Another option is to go down to Sant Cugat del Vallès, where you have to link up to Cerdanyola del Vallès by the old road and go up to Forat del Vent (the Horta road, which crosses the mountain range). This lap involves about 32 km and ends at the Horta velodrome.

Bicycle route along the coast of Barcelona
