La Barceloneta is one of Barcelona’s most beloved neighborhoods, located by the sea, in the district of Port Vell. Its charm is based on its seafaring history and its cozy atmosphere, which contrasts with the hustle and bustle of the big city.<\/p>

Initially, this neighborhood was home to fishermen until, in the 18th century, it was built to rehouse the inhabitants of La Ribera, whose houses were demolished to make way for the Citadel. For a long time, fishing and related industry dominated La Barceloneta antigua, until the prohibition of industrialization within the walls of Barcelona caused factories to settle in the periphery, including La Barceloneta, where metallurgy boomed.<\/p>

The definitive transformation occurred with the demolition of the walls and the construction of the San Sebastian baths in 1928, turning the Barceloneta neighborhood into a tourist attraction.
