Cadaqués, Far Calanans, and Cala Sabolla Route

If we are looking for routes and excursions in the Alt Empordà, we will find the charming village of Cadaqués. Undoubtedly one of the most attractive sites if we are looking for routes in the province of Girona. So in Willy’s Plan, we propose you an original route to do if you are in this area: this excursion that we propose to you consists of discovering the village of Cadaqués, passing by one of the most famous lighthouses and with the best views of the area: Far de Cala nans. Finally, we will end up arriving to the Sabolla Cove. Undoubtedly, one of the best routes to do in Cadaqués that you can not miss.

Although it is a little far from the rest of the towns in the area, (being the routes and things to do in Port de la Selva(some of the nearest excursions that we propose to you to this town), this does not prevent you from missing out on all the leisure and fun that this incredible town has to offer.

Cadaqués is usually very crowded in summer, but just when this season, it becomes “the most beautiful village in the world” (as Salvador Dalí said), and whoever visits it will be able to appreciate all its magic and charm. This is due to the fact that, without exceeding high temperatures, it can maintain a very pleasant climate, ideal for traveling from beginning to end.

That is why we have designed this route that runs through the village of Cadaqués, Far de Calanans, and Cala Sabolla. A tour that will take you to know one of the best places to see in the Alt Empordà, along with the route in Llançà in which we propose magical places like the garbet beach or the monastery of Sant Pere de Rodes.

Town of Cadaqués

The history of Cadaqués goes back thousands of years (the first document found dates back to before 814 AD), when the Iberians were the lords and masters of these lands. To learn about its history, it is essential to visit the old town and get lost in its labyrinthine streets. The medieval village is surrounded by a great wall, occupying the space of what today is the historic center of the town.

Gastronomy also plays a very important role in this visit, so you can not leave without trying its famous suquet de peix, which of course you will find in its wide range of restaurants. As well as enjoying guided tours of the town that tell its true history and help you connect with its beautiful architecture, a must do!

Calanans Lighthouse

To get to Far de Calanans, it is about 5 km from the center of Cadaqués. Put on some sneakers, bring a snack and something to drink; it would be a very good option. Or if you prefer, there are also guided hiking tours that allow you to enjoy the incredible rocky landscape that only the Cap de Creus mountain range can offer. In addition, it is an ideal plan for a family getaway, with friends or as a couple. With so many options on how to get there, this time we leave it up to you.

The Far de Calanans is of great importance for the town of Cadaqués, as it allowed the entry of many boats to the town, working in turn as a seaport and commercial port of the city.

It was built on a cliff, so its access was very complicated and the materials arrived by sea, representing a great challenge for the engineers and architects of the time. An effort that today is a tourist attraction for many, where they can enjoy wonderful views of the town and unforgettable sunsets. In addition, this lighthouse has been the protagonist of a famous movie like “Perdona si te llamo amor”, directed by Joaquín Llamas.

Sabolla Cove

ruta cala sabolla

Just down from the Far de Calanans, we will continue our route to reach the Cala Sabolla . This cove is ideal for a day at the beach without crowds, as it is not well known by tourists. So, here’s a secret you’re sure to love.

For nature lovers, it is the ideal place to enjoy incredible panoramic views that contrast with the nearby crop fields, sedimentary rocks and the immensity of the sea. We encourage you to carry your cell phone or a professional camera, because the pictures you can take on this beach are incredible, and it is always good to leave a nice souvenir.

To make your visit to Cala Sabolla more enjoyable , we recommend that you bring something prepared to eat and drink during the day, because as we said before, access is limited and it is not easy to stock up. For the rest you don’t have to worry: just let yourself go and enjoy this route that we have designed for you.
